syringe shields

Syringe shields are used by clinicians to reduce their exposure to radioactive substances. Normal plastic syringes are inserted into the shield which attenuates the radiation. The radionuclide is then drawn into the syringe ready for injection into the patient prior to a gamma scan.

Despite it’s small size and simplicity the Unilcock Syringe Shield  is one of the most significant products I designed.

It enabled me to set up my own company and with world-wide success became the cash-cow for Design Systems.

Many have tried to beat it but after 20 years my design remains a top product.
